Wing Chun Ling Tung Gong is an internal training system preserved within the Wing Chun lineage of Ip Man, transmitted through Gregory Choi to David Richardson.
It exists to support Wing Chun practice by refining how the body functions, rather than by adding techniques or external methods. Ling Tung Gong focuses on internal structure, intent (Yi), breath, coordinated whole-body movement, and health-preserving martial function.
It is not a separate martial art, not a modern Qi Gong system, and not part of mainstream or sport-based Wing Chun.
Internal Training as Functional Foundation
Ling Tung Gong addresses the internal mechanics that allow Wing Chun to function efficiently under pressure. Rather than training force through muscular tension, it develops:
A means of preserving health, efficiency, and longevity in martial practice
Structural alignment and integrity
Coordinated movement of the whole body
Efficient force transmission without excess strength
Relaxation under stress
Stability and recovery when structure is disrupted
This internal training ensures that Wing Chun remains effective while reducing wear on the joints, spine, and nervous system.
Relationship to Wing Chun Practice
Ling Tung Gong underpins all Wing Chun training. It does not replace forms, drills, or applications, but informs how they are performed.
When internal structure is absent, Wing Chun techniques rely on speed, strength, or athleticism. When Ling Tung Gong is present, techniques function through alignment, timing, and coordinated intent.
In this way, Ling Tung Gong allows Wing Chun to be practiced as a complete system, integrating martial effectiveness with long-term health.
Lineage and Transmission
The Ling Tung Gong system was preserved and refined by Gregory Choi, a direct disciple of Ip Man, and transmitted traditionally to David Richardson as a closed-door disciple.
The system reflects material taught privately within this lineage, including internal conditioning, structural principles, and health-preserving methods intended to support Wing Chun in its entirety.
Purpose of Ling Tung Gong
Ling Tung Gong exists to ensure that Wing Chun:
Remains functional beyond youth and athleticism
Preserves the practitioner’s body over decades of practice
Maintains clarity, efficiency, and adaptability under pressure
Health and martial skill are treated as inseparable outcomes of correct training.
A Living Transmission
Wing Chun Ling Tung Gong is preserved and taught through Kung Fu Southside as a living system. Its transmission prioritises accuracy, integrity, and continuity, ensuring that the internal foundations of Wing Chun are not lost or diluted over time.
