When we align our daily habits with the natural course of the seasons, instead of against them and our body thanks us with abounding energy and positive emotions.
Q. But how do we achieve that?
A. Firstly look into ways of learning that provide you with the correct answers. There is a lot of hype and marketing surrounding the wellness industry, and generally if it’s overly complicated and has secrets that have never been available before now, then it’s probably too good to be true. There is a saying “There is nothing new under the sun” meaning that throughout time someone has already figured it out, and it’s already out there. We do however, strive to make it easier and up to date.
Q. What do you mean by align with the seasons?
A. Look at the world around you. And by that I mean put the phone down, go outside and see what the weather is like. Is it warm and pleasant with new births and active growth and abundance like springtime? Is it hot with lots of rain over longer days and shorter nights, with everything starting to mature, like summer? Has summer changed to Autumn with the weather getting cooler and winds that blow strong? Or has winter come and it’s cold energy has everything hibernating or resting over the longer nights and shorter days.
Q. Can you tell me what I need to do then?
A. Yes, but there is one condition…………..it will take time. There is no quick fix, no instant reward and you are the only one who can do it.
A good place to start is by matching your sleep cycle to the sun’s cycle. Get up and start the day when the sun rises during the “spring” aspect of the day when the air is fresh and cool and the suns warming rays feel awesome on your face as you get started with your daily health activities, like Wing Chun Ling Tung Gong, walking, jogging or whatever it is that gets you up and moving. You should wake with enough energy to want to get things done, if you don’t wake refreshed, then set an alarm to ensure you wake up on time and let’s have a look at the other end of your sleep cycle.
Going to sleep between 9-10pm is optimal for recharging and rebuilding your body. I don’t mean go to bed and look at your device or watch TV until the wee hours, you need to go to sleep. The blue light from your device or TV tricks your body clock into thinking it’s daytime and actually makes it harder to fall asleep. Go old school and read a book or something similar. It may take some time for you to feel tired and want to sleep at this time, but trust me, if you get up when the alarm goes off at sunrise every morning it won’t take long for your rhythm to adjust naturally and enhance your health with Wing Chun. Just be consistent.
